Top 10 things to do in Auckland

This diverse city is NZ's largest - with beautiful beaches, native forests, city night life, and a huge range of places to eat and drink. There's literally something for everyone - whether you prefer taking it easy and trying out one of the many beaches, parks or restaurants, actively using one of the many bike lanes which circle the city, climbing a dormant volcano, tramping through native forests - you won't have trouble finding something to do in Auckland. 

With the school holidays fast approaching - there's even more chance to get your family discovering parts of Auckland you may never have been to. North of Auckland check out the gorgeous gardens and sculptures of Sculptureum, just a 45min drive from central Auckland, this is a great way to spend the day looking at an eclectic collection of artworks, delicious food, restaurants and local wine tasting. Based in the Matakana/Omaha area - why not check out Omaha beach and Matakana cafes/markets as well while your there. Hire a bike to explore the vineyards if your feeling energetic. A bit further north is the Goat Island marine reserve. Take the glass bottom boat tour, or if your feeling more adventurous you can get up close with the fish and marine life with their snorkel and dive tours.

Coming back south towards the city you'll pass Auckland's only inside ski field. Snowplanet has slopes for adults and options for families with their winter wonderland - a perfect place to show the kids snow for the first time. At -5 deg make sure you bring your winter gear - or you can hire it. What kid or adult doesn't love an old fashioned toboggan ride !

For those of you who love to get out on the water Auckland has many options. Surrounded by water there are some awesome activities that will wet your appetite. Try your hand at kayaking to Rangitoto with Auckland Sea Kayaks. You can do a half day tour to Brown Island or full day option to Rangitoto with bbq lunch to replenish your batteries for the paddle back to shore. 

The west coast has multiple bush walking options - either self guided walks through the Waitakere Ranges or take one of the Bush and Beach guided options which will take you to Piha's black sand beaches to native forest walks.

Heading back to the city you can't go past the SkyTower with out heading up to see 360deg views over all of Auckland. With glass floors and external bungy options there's something for everyone. Feeling peckish? The Skytower has many restaurants to suit all types of eaters and if your feeling lucky a casino to spend some of that holiday pocket money. Fancy staying over? the Sky City Grand hotel is probably the fanciest way to rest your head after a long day exploring the best that Auckland has to offer.
