Tongariro Alpine Crossing Guided Walk - WINTER SPECIAL ($195/person)
Winter only: Ends September 30th 2022.
Weather dependent, we do not guarantee reaching the Ketatahi end.
HOT DEAL : 4th person half-price.
This 19km trek is New Zealand’s best day one-day walk. The track leads up to the saddle between Mt. Ngauruhoe and Mt. Tongariro. The landscape on Tongariro is peppered with different coloured and shaped craters that have been active at different periods, scoured volcanic rocks, mountain springs and brightly coloured emerald lakes. Summer offers a majestic landscape of recent resultant volcanic activity. There is a vast array of colors and textures created from Sulphur, Aluminium, Silica, and many other mineral deposits released from within the Earth’s Crust. In summer this track can get crowded and where possible, we take our clients away from the masses while making sure that the popular sights are still experienced.
This is a Tongariro Alpine guided tour. We do not guarantee reaching the Ketatahi end. Safety regarding weather, avalanche, ice and hypothermia are taken into consideration when securing our exact route for the day. We take all individual and group bookings. If you are travelling alone please book as we generally always meet minimum numbers, especially on good weather days.
Weather dependent, we do not guarantee reaching the Ketatahi end.

Join us this summer on a Tongariro Alpine Crossing Guided Walk, New Zealand’s best day one-day walk. The 19km track leads up to the saddle between Mt. Ngauruhoe and Mt. Tongariro. The landscape on Tongariro is peppered with different coloured and shaped craters that have been active at different periods, scoured volcanic rocks, mountain springs and brightly coloured emerald lakes.
Mt Ruapehu Crater Lake - Group Guided Hike ($325/person)
Timings: Summer (1 Oct - 30 Apr) 8am - 5.30pm / Winter (1 May - 30 Sept) 7am - 5.30pm
For those who like a manageable challenge, we offer a full day Mt Ruapehu Guided Walk. With snow right up until the end of December this is fantastic for those wanting a snow experience using crampons and ice axes. Mt. Ruapehu is the highest (2797m) of the three active andesitic volcanoes in the Tongariro National Park. The last eruption on Mt. Ruapehu was in 2007. Join us for lunch on top of the North Island highest volcano from where you can gaze down into the geothermal waters of the crater lake. Please note this is not a track and is less stable walking than on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.
The walk begins at the Whakapapa Ski area at the top of the Bruce Road on Mt. Ruapehu. There may be an option of taking a chairlift up to Knoll Ridge cafe. This option will depend on the group on the day and if the chairlifts are operating. Payment for the chairlift is about $35 pp and is made to Ruapehu Alpine Lifts (situated at the start of the walk). The lifts close at 4.00 pm daily, should conditions deteriorate during the day the lifts may have to be closed earlier.
Walking distance is 10 kms return or 7 kms return when the chairlift is utilised. Walking time is about 6-7 hours. This walk requires a good level of fitness. The terrain is uneven and steep in places. It is possible to take the walk as far as Knoll Ridge Cafe if you are concerned about your fitness.
During winter and times of snow, surface conditions will vary from day to day. Crampons and ice axes are required, and your guide will provide instruction on how to use them correctly.

At Soda Springs we give you the option to upgrade to the full day walk and join in with the full day guided party to complete the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.
If the Tongariro Alpine Crossing walk is not suitable on the day, we have a menu of smaller walks we can enjoy. We will talk and show you all things relevant to Tongariro and New Zealand including recent and past eruptions, geology, flora and fauna discovery and settlement of NZ.
